20 Distinctive Fonts to Rock Your Next Logo

[ad_1]

This guest post was written by Laura Busche at Creative Market, a platform for handcrafted, mousemade design content from independent creatives around the world.

Starting a logo design project from scratch is hard — to say the least. I’ve found, however, that creating a moodboard with graphics, patterns and fonts that inspire your brand is a solid first step. Throughout this article, I’ll share 20 unique font families that share four crucial factors: distinction, readability, flexibility, and timelessness.

  1. Distinction points to a font family’s ability to differentiate your brand. Is it distinguishable in the ocean of brands that your potential buyers are exposed to every day?

  2. Readability is related to basic ease to understand what this logo is saying; a well-balanced, properly-kerned font family can help you achieve that.

  3. A font family’s flexibility should also play a major role in your decision: can you design all the marketing collateral and packaging pieces required to sell your product? If you’re trying to sell a service: can this font family help you build all the offline and online tools your brand needs?

  4. Finally, timelessness speaks about your font family’s capacity to remain relatively unaffected by time. We all know that design trends come and go, but whatever typographic choice you make for your brand’s logo needs to stand the test of time — that is, if you don’t want to find yourself rebranding every 6 months.

Taking these four factors into account, I selected 20 logo-ready fonts for four sample industries: Retail, Tech, Healthcare, and Brewery Brands.

Most of the font families you’ll find below are premium, but I also included a few free options in case you are interested.

Retail Brands

Retail poses particular challenges: your font family will likely be applied across different types of mediums like packaging (bags, boxes), retail elements, print, web, and more. With so much competition, you need a font family that provides distinction as well as that brand-specific personality you want to reflect.

Tech Brands

Can your potential buyer rely on you? Are you perceived as a modern, secure supplier that will fulfill on a specific brand promise? True: many service and product factors must come together to answer yes to both of these questions. Also true: your brand symbols, and that includes typography, can contribute to the image that you’re trying to portray.

Healthcare Brands

Take the reliability factor in tech brands up another level. It’s lives we’re talking about now. Formality and trustworthiness are crucial for healthcare brands trying to establish a set of values in this marketplace. Unlike other categories, where price and style play a role in consumer decision-making, healthcare brands must uplift their history, expertise and rigorous character.

Brewery Brands

…and we’re back to non-life-threatening situations.* Fun, tradition and flavor are all important concepts to convey with a beer brand. The first step here is to figure out whether your customer is the high-brow beer connoisseur, the casual, absent-minded drinker, or someone in between. Once you know that, design a visual identity that caters to this customer’s taste expectations.
